CLIENT FACING FIRST-DEGREE MURDER WITH SPECIAL ALLEGATIONS OF ROBBERY, KIDNAPPING, & TORTURE GETS HUNG JURY AFTER 5 WEEK TRIAL

In San Diego County state court, Virtus Law Group, LLP Partner Colby J. Ryan, Esq. assisted in representing a client facing charges of first-degree murder with special allegations of kidnapping, robbery, and torture. After a 5 week trial, were the client was facing a sentence of life without parole, the jury deliberated for seven whole days and ultimately were hopelessly deadlocked.

CLIENT FACING 60 YEARS TO LIFE FOR FIRST-DEGREE GANG MURDER WITH INTENTIONAL DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM IS FOUND NOT GUILTY OF FIRST-DEGREE MURDER, NOT GUILTY OF THE GANG ALLEGATION, AND NOT GUILTY OF INTENTIONAL DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM

In San Diego County state court, Virtus Law Group, LLP partners Colby J. Ryan, Esq. and Liann R. Sabatini, Esq. represented a client facing charges of first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and allegations that the client intentionally fired his firearm and did so for the benefit of his gang. After a 3 week trial, where the client was facing a sentences of 60 years to life in prison, and when the crime itself was on video, the jury deliberated for three whole days and found our client not guilty of first-degree murder, not guilty of intentional discharge of a firearm, and not true that the crime was done for the benefit of his gang.

CLIENT FACING LIFE IN PRISON X3 FOR TORTURE, AGGRAVATED MAYHEM,  AND CHILD ABUSE CAUSING DEATH OR COMA GETS ALL 3 LIFE COUNTS DISMISSED BY JUDGE AND A HUNG JURY ON FINAL FELONY COUNT AFTER 7 WEEK TRIAL

In San Diego County state court, Virtus Law Group, LLP partners Colby J. Ryan, Esq. and Liann R. Sabatini, Esq. represented a client facing charges of torture, aggravated mayhem, felony child abuse causing death or coma, and felony child abuse. After a 7 week trial, where the client was facing three sentences of life in prison, the judge dismissed all three life counts after the DA rested their case based on lack of evidence, and later the jury deliberated for five whole days and ultimately were hopelessly deadlocked as to the final count of felony child abuse, which was ultimately dismissed by the DA.

CLIENT ON FELONY PROBATION FOR STRIKE GETS HUNG JURY ON NEW STRIKE CASE AFTER 1 WEEK TRIAL

In San Diego County state court, Virtus Law Group, LLP partners Colby J. Ryan, Esq. and Liann R. Sabatini, Esq. represented a client facing charges of battery causing serious bodily injury, assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, and strike allegations of great bodily injury, all while the client was on felony probation for a strike case and another felony case. After one week of trial and jury deliberations, when the crime itself was on video, the jury deliberated for two whole days and ultimately were hopelessly deadlocked as to all counts and allegations.

CLIENT FACING FELONY DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE WITH GREAT BODILY INJURY GETS CASE DISMISSED

In San Diego County state court, Virtus Law Group, LLP Partner represented a Mexican national charged with driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury, where the client was facing multiple strikes and more than 14 years in prison. After speaking with our client, he insisted that he was not driving the vehicle allegedly involved. On the day of preliminary hearing, the case was dismissed.

After a two-day trial, the jury deliberated for three whole days and found our client not guilty of all felony charges.

CLIENT SERVING 96-MONTH SENTENCE RELEASED AFTER SERVING ONLY HALF OF HIS SENTENCE IN CUSTODY

In the Southern Federal Court District, Virtus Law Group, LLP Partner Colby J. Ryan, Esq. was retained during the COVID-19 pandemic to write a compassionate release motion for a client that was currently serving a 96-month federal prison sentence. After drafting and filing the motion, the motion was unopposed by the United States Attorney’s Office and the client was released.

CLIENT ON FEDERAL SUPERVISED RELEASE AND PAROLE WITH STRIKE PRIOR RECEIVES PROBATION FOR POSSESSION OF LOADED GUN AND DRUGS

In Los Angeles County state court, Virtus Law Group, LLP Partner Colby J. Ryan, Esq. represented a client who was arrested during a traffic stop where a loaded firearm and narcotics were located under his seat. At the time, the client was on federal supervised release, as well as on parole, as he had been convicted of a strike prior and sent to prison just one two years before. After speaking with our client, as well as negotiating with the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, the client pled guilty to probation having served only 7 days of custody. 

CLIENT CHARGED WITH FELONY POSSESSION OF 68 KILOGRAMS OF COCAINE BETWEEN 2 CASES GETS 2 YEARS CUSTODY

In San Diego state court, Virtus Law Group, LLP Partner Colby J. Ryan, Esq. represented a client who was charged with importation of methamphetamine from Mexico of 15 kilograms of cocaine. While out on release, the client was then re-arrested as part of a joint federal and state undercover surveillance operation, where 10 total defendants were charged with the transportation and sales of approximately 256 kilograms of cocaine and fentanyl, along with other money, drug, and weapons charges. After litigating both cases past preliminary hearing based on the alleged 68 kilograms of drugs attributed to the client, and after lengthy mitigation efforts, our client ultimately pled guilty and was sentenced to 2 years in local custody with a term of supervised release.

CLIENT ON FEDERAL SUPERVISED RELEASE WITH STRIKE PRIOR RECEIVES NO CUSTODY FOR POSSESSION OF LOADED FIREARM WITH DRUGS

In San Diego state court, Virtus Law Group, LLP Partner Colby J. Ryan, Esq. represented a client who was charged with felony possession of a loaded firearm by a felon while possessing drugs. At the time, the client was on federal supervised release, had a strike prior for armed robbery, and had just served a 10 year sentence in federal prison. After litigating the case past preliminary hearing and an evidence suppression motion, the client ultimately was sentenced to probation with 180 days stayed.

In 2022, Virtus Law Group, LLP Partners were retained by a client who had deposited his almost $30,000 holiday bonus check into his Bank Of America account, who then held the funds from client for more than six months. After retaining our Partners, and sending our Demand to Bank of America, the client received the full check amount within 60 days.

After retaining our Partners, and sending our Demands to the four different companies, the client received more than $100,000.00 within 30 days of retaining.
